Police in Sheema district are holding Richard Tumuramye, the chairperson of Kitojo ward PDM SACCO on allegations of extortion from members.
Tumuramye together with some leaders of the SACCO have been reportedly asking for between Shs10,000 and Shs100,000 from members promising to include their names on the list of people to benefit from PDM funds in the next phase.
SACCO members from the villages of Rushoroza, Mutojo, Kahama, Kyamukuma, Rugarama, Kambugu and Katagata accuse chairman Tumuramye, Secretary Henry Buyenje and another leader Stanley Tayebwa of extorting Large sums of money from them and giving them lesser monies than the amount they expect to receive from PDM.
The Nyamifumura police OC, Levi Akalivenuma said Tumuramye’s arrest was a result of several complaints from Kitojo ward PDM SACCO members who accuse him of extorting money from them.
Presidentil Museveni has frequently intimidated to arrest individuals asking for money in form of bribe from citizens to benefit from PDM funds.
