In a concerted effort to maintain the integrity of national examinations, the Police in Kiira Division have apprehended five teachers for unauthorized possession of examination materials believed to be Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) papers. The crackdown aligns with the theme of “Embracing Security and Holistic Assessment of Learners in a Dynamic Environment.”

The suspects include Mugaga Ramathan Male, Tumuhimbise Ronald, Otai Nelson, Katamba Richard, and Kimanje Tom, who allegedly disseminated the materials and provided answers to candidates at Kisoro Primary School, Kimanya, Masaka City. These teachers are expected to appear before the magistrate’s court in Kiira on November 12th.

Additionally, the Police in Masaka are investigating a separate incident involving two female Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) candidates, Nabahinda Cecilia and Nakiyimba Grace, who were caught with smartphones in the examination room. The students were reportedly using the devices to access AI-generated essays and summarized notes during their afternoon paper.

Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, the Principal Public Relations Officer of UNEB, condemned these actions, emphasizing the importance of integrity in the examination process.

The authorities continue to urge students and educators to adhere to examination regulations to uphold the credibility and fairness of the academic assessment system.
