In a major operation, the Directorate of Crime Intelligence, in collaboration with other security agencies, has busted a counterfeit money ring, arresting eight suspects and seizing large quantities of fake currencies and materials used in the production of counterfeit money.
The operation, conducted yesterday afternoon at Elite Arcade on Nasser Road, shop A-08, led to the arrest of Mukasa Ronald, the principal dealer, and his accomplices: Mugumya Geey, Brian Abaho, Joel Kagame, Ogadi Ronald, Namuwaya Shadia, Segwayi Rodgers, and Abu Mayanja.
The police recovered counterfeit money in various currencies, including Ugandan shillings, South Sudanese Pounds, US Dollars, Euros, Rwandan Francs, United Kingdom Pounds, and Kuwaiti Dinars. Materials used in the production of counterfeit money, such as films, papers with images, chemicals, CPUs, monitors, digital printers, and suspected forged land titles and academic documents, were also seized.
The suspects will be charged with dealing in counterfeits and will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded. The police remain committed to combating counterfeit operations and ensuring the integrity of the financial system.
This operation is a significant breakthrough in the fight against counterfeiting, and the police are urging the public to report any suspicious activities related to counterfeit money.
