Police officer, Detective Gilbert Arinaitwe Bwana has been released on a 2 million shillings cash bail by the Buganda road chief magistrate court after he spent over a week in coolers.
Known for smashing Dr. Kizza Besigye’s car and spraying him with pepper during the 2011 walk to work, Arinaitwe was on August 10 arraigned before the Buganda road magistrate court on charges of human trafficking and was remanded to Luzira prison where he has been for almost one week.
The court chief magistrate Ronald Kayizzi further ordered Arinaitwe’s three sureties; his 68-year-old mother, a brother, and his friend were each ordered to execute a non-cash bond of Shs10 million and to ensure his return in court whenever needed.

It is alleged that Arinaitwe who is currently attached to the Crime Intelligence (CID) recruited, transported, and harbored a 23-year-old woman for purposes of sexual exploitation.
Prosecution states that on June 23, 2023, at his home in Nalumunye-Bandwe in Kyengera Town Council, Arinaitwe used various forms of deception, threats, and abuse of power to force the victim into involuntary servitude or debt bondage which is contrary to section 3(1)(a) and 4(h) of the the Prevention of Trafficking Act ( 2009).
The chief magistrate Ronald Kayizzi ordered Arinaitwe to handover his passport to court to bar him from moving outside the country.
He will be to court on September 9, 2023, for hearing of the case.
