Police in Kanungu are investigating death of a 22-year-old man after he was allegedly assaulted by unknown people on his way to home from a bar.
The incident occured on Saturday February 17 at around midnight and a case of murder by assault was reported to Kihihi police station vide CRB67/2024.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate has identified the deceased as Turyatunga Hakim, a resident of Mukayaga Ndeeba cell Nyakatunguru ward Kihiihi town council Kanungu district.
It’s alleged that on the on the fateful day, the deceased together with his friend Shaban Byamukama were seen in one of the bars in Mukayaga trading centre where they found another reveller only identified as Nicholas and the bar owner.
Turyatunga was later found lying unconscious near his home the next morning and he was rushed to Kigezi Community Medical Centre for urgent treatment. He died on Monday February 19 at around 0800hrs.
“Police was informed by Benon Twongyirwe, visited and documented the scene, statements recorded from witnesses to assist in investigation and postmortem was accordingly done,” ASP Elly Maate said.
According to police, the deceased had a big injury on the head and efforts to get those involved are being made so that are brought to book for justice.
Furthermore, Maate reported that the deceased friend, Shaban Byamukama denied knowledge about the death stating that inquiries are underway to arrest perpetrators.
“Shaban Byamukama claims he left the deceased in the bar and went home. Inquiries are underway,” he said.
