The Uganda Police Force has raised alarms over the increasing number of fraud cases involving fake pastors and traditional healers who extort from unsuspecting individuals, leading to significant financial losses.
Speaking to the press, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusoke Kituuma revealed that preliminary investigations have exposed a disturbing pattern among these fraudsters.
“These individuals pose as religious pastors during the day but transform into traditional healers at night,” ACP Rusoke stated.
He said their places of worship often include traditional shrines, explaining that victims who often hand over large sums of money and physical property in exchange for supposed miracles or healing, are met with threats when they demand refunds.
Additionally, Rusoke revealed that the police have identified several suspects linked to these fraudulent activities and plan to expose and prosecute them.
“We urge the public to be cautious and report any encounters with these deceitful individuals to the police,” ACP Rusoke emphasized.
According to police, such fraudulent schemes not only exploit people’s faith but also contribute to a growing wave of criminal activities in communities.
