Prudential Uganda’s six-month SAFE STEPS Road Safety Campaign has successfully concluded, training over 8,000 boda-boda riders in road safety and first aid skills. The campaign, launched in October 2023, covered Central, Western, and Eastern Uganda, targeting key districts and divisions.
The initiative, implemented by the Uganda Red Cross Society, aimed to promote safer driving habits and reduce road accidents. Boda-boda riders received hands-on training, public service announcement videos, educational posters, and media engagement on critical road safety topics.
Since its inception, the SAFE STEPS campaign has reached over 12,000 boda-boda riders. Prudential Uganda’s CEO, Tetteh Ayitevie, expressed pride in the campaign’s impact, stating, “We are committed to road safety and will continue to support initiatives aimed at reducing road accidents and saving lives.”
Uganda Red Cross Society’s Secretary General, Kwesiga Robert, applauded Prudential Uganda for sustaining the road safety initiative, noting, “We recognize the urgent need for sustained road safety education and sensitization efforts to reduce accidents and save lives.”
The campaign’s success is crucial, given the high number of road traffic crashes in Uganda, with motorcycles contributing 36% of incidents. The SAFE STEPS campaign will continue in 2024, expanding its reach to more districts.
