KIGEZI
In a proactive move to bolster security and preparedness ahead of the 2026 general elections, the Uganda Police Force has launched a week-long Public Order Management (POM) training in the Kigezi region.
The residential training, which began on September 9, 2025, is being held at the former National Teachers College in Kabale. It is spearheaded by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ulama David from Police Headquarters, with oversight from Regional Police Commander (RPC) Kigezi, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Wabwire Alex. Coordination is being handled by FFU Zonal Commander, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ategeka.
A total of 341 officers drawn from various units including the Field Force Unit (FFU), General Duties, Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Crime Intelligence (CI), and Traffic Police are participating in the intensive drills.
The training focuses on enhancing operational readiness through:Crowd control techniques, tactical maneuvers,safe handling and use of explosives, conflict resolution strategies, risk assessment protocols.
Authorities have assured the public that the exercises are purely preparatory and should not cause alarm. Residents are encouraged to continue with their daily routines as the drills are conducted.
“This training is part of our commitment to ensuring a peaceful and well-managed electoral process,” said ASP Maate Elly, Public Relations Officer for Kigezi Region.
