Regional Ministers Agree on Advancing ICT Infrastructure Development

At the Joint Ministerial meeting of the ICT Infrastructure development under the Northern Corridor Integration Projects, regional ministers unanimously agreed on advancing the implementation and development of ICT infrastructure in the Northern Corridor region.

The ministers recognized the crucial role that ICT infrastructure plays in fostering economic growth, enhancing regional connectivity, promoting digital inclusion, and driving technological innovation. The ministers emphasized the need for collaborative efforts, partnership, and coordination among member states to accelerate the deployment of broadband networks, promote affordable access to high-speed internet, and strengthen the digital ecosystem in the region.

They also stressed the importance of creating an enabling policy and regulatory environment to attract investments in ICT infrastructure, promote competition, safeguard consumer rights, and ensure data privacy and cybersecurity.

The ministers further highlighted the significance of capacity building initiatives to enhance digital skills and literacy, particularly among youth and marginalized groups. These efforts are vital to ensure that all citizens have the necessary knowledge and skills to fully participate in the digital economy and benefit from the opportunities provided by ICT infrastructure development. The ministers also recognized the need to leverage emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and Internet of Things to drive innovation and transformation in various sectors including agriculture, healthcare, education, and governance. By harnessing the potential of these technologies, the ministers believe that the Northern Corridor region can unlock new opportunities, improve service delivery, and address socio-economic challenges. The ministers also expressed their commitment to promoting cross-border collaboration and information sharing on ICT infrastructure development. This will foster regional integration, improve connectivity, and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices.

The ministers agreed to prioritize the establishment of a regional ICT infrastructure development roadmap, which will outline specific projects, timelines, and funding mechanisms. This roadmap will serve as a guiding framework for member states to coordinate their efforts and investments in ICT infrastructure development, ensuring efficient and effective implementation of projects.

The ministers recognized that a regional ICT infrastructure development roadmap is essential for coordinating efforts, securing investments, and ensuring the efficient implementation of projects. By working together and aligning their priorities, the ministers believe that they can accelerate the development of ICT infrastructure in the Northern Corridor region, promote digital inclusion, and drive economic growth and development. They also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in driving ICT infrastructure development. These partnerships will provide the necessary resources, expertise, and innovation to support the implementation of ICT infrastructure projects.

Public-private partnerships will bring together the strengths and capabilities of both sectors to accelerate the development of robust and sustainable ICT infrastructure. This will involve collaboration between government entities and private companies to leverage resources, technology, and expertise in order to achieve shared goals. These partnerships will also enhance innovation and efficiency in ICT infrastructure development, ensuring that projects are implemented on time and within budget. Through the establishment of a regional ICT infrastructure development roadmap and partnerships, the ministers aim to accelerate the development of robust and sustainable ICT infrastructure in the Northern Cor
