KISORO
Residents of Nyundo Sub County in Bukimbiri county, Kisoro district have accused their parish chiefs of corruption, negligence and incompetence in the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) project.
The PDM National Deputy Coordinator, Kyomukama Jovrine Kaliisa, visited Bukimbiri County to supervise the project’s progress, but was confronted by dissatisfied residents.
Only eight people attended the meeting out of an expected 7,000. Kaliisa threatened to suspend the project in the area, but instead relocated the meeting to Kabahunde trading centre where residents voiced their grievances.
Kaliisa warned that any supervisor found neglecting their duties would be arrested and instructed the parish chiefs to register beneficiaries and disburse funds no later than Thursday next week.
In Rubuguri and Nyanamo town councils, beneficiaries were found to be well-prepared to receive the funds.
This visit follows recent criticism from the local Member of Parliament, who expressed dissatisfaction with the project’s guidelines, claiming they did not adequately address the needs of the most vulnerable citizens.
Kallisa also clarified that individuals could apply for a maximum loan amount of one million shillings, based on their business plans (Ekibaro), rather than relying on advice from loan committee.
