Residents in Mahyoro Town council , Kitagwenda district have raised alarms over impassable roads in the area.
The budget to work on the road was passed in the last financial year 2021/ 2022 but since then it has never been worked on.
The road is mostly used by business people to transport fish from Bukurungu to Ibanda and for other business transactions.
The road in question is Bwensamba-Kabale-Kyabatimbo 5.6 kilometer access road which connects Kitagwenda Town Council ,Bukurungu Town Council and Mashyoro Town Council.
According to the residents in Kabale ward that spoke to our reporter the road is bushy, full of potholes and stones which makes it difficult to transport expectant mothers to Ntara health centre IV both by motorcycles and motor vehicles.
They also say that during the launch of this road on 5th June 2021, they were forced to clear their banana plantations and gardens where this road would pass no construction has ever been done.
According to Byamukama Vicent, the area councilor representing Kabale ward and the secretary for works and social services,14 million shillings was passed in the financial year 2021-2022 to clear, grade and level 5.6 km of this access road but all is in vain.
Patrick Turyamureeba, the Kitagwenda Town Council LC3 chairperson explained why this road has since never been worked on and said that as the town council, they do not have road equipment since the district does not have a road unit as they resort to borrowing from Ibanda,Kamwenge and Rubirizi who are always busy working on their own.
He requested the people to be patient until the town council gets its own equipment and the road will be worked on.
Kitagwenda being a new district,it still relies on the road equipment from neighboring districts of Ibanda,Kamwenge and Rubirizi to have their roads worked on.
