Rushoroza Cathedral Parish, has commemorated its hundredth anniversary with a magnificent celebration that united Christians from both local and distant communities. This significant milestone was honored through a series of meaningful events that brought together the faithful, serving as a testament to their enduring commitment to spiritual development over the span of a century.

At the heart of the commemoration was a poignant and inspiring homily graciously delivered by Bishop Callist Rubaramira, whose words resonated deeply with the attendees and expressed heartfelt appreciation for their presence. This exceptional occasion also served as an opportunity to pay homage to the pioneers of the parish, individuals whose unwavering dedication paved the way for its creation.

Among these pioneers, Catechist Yohana Kitagana was particularly recognized for his instrumental role in establishing and nurturing the parish, ensuring its growth and prosperity. By acknowledging the contributions of such individuals, the celebration not only honored the past but also ignited hope for the parish’s future, inspiring the congregation to continue their spiritual journey with renewed vigor and purpose.

Reflecting on the origins of Rushoroza Cathedral Parish in 1923, Bishop Rubaramira acknowledged the foresight of Bishop Striker, who had recognized the need for a religious center in the area. A group of priests journeyed on foot from Nyamitanga and were greeted by 700 devoted Catholics upon their arrival.During his homily, Bishop Rubaramira expressed profound gratitude to the Missionaries of Africa and Comboni missionary priests for their remarkable and invaluable contributions to the tremendous growth and development of the parish community. With heartfelt admiration, he commended the unwavering dedication and selfless commitment of these religious individuals, who, driven by their unwavering faith in Christ, had tirelessly and zealously devoted themselves to visiting countless homes and imparting the teachings of Christianity to countless children.

Former member of parliament for Rubabo constituency Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo at the centenary celebrations at Rushoroza.

Their relentless efforts have significantly played a pivotal role in ensuring the wide proliferation of the Christian faith in the community. Consequently, the festivities coinciding with the Epiphany of the Lord provided a momentous occasion for Bishop Rubaramira to draw profound parallels between the guiding star that led the Wisemen to the divine presence of Jesus and the spiritual journey undertaken by all the enlightened seekers in their pursuit of a profound connection with Christ.

Just as the star was a guiding light for the Wisemen, so too are the Missionaries of Africa and the Comboni missionary priests illuminating beacons of faith and compassion for the entire parish, steadfastly guiding individuals towards a deeper understanding and experience of spiritual fulfillment through the teachings and love of Christ.

He emphasized the importance of the proclamation of Christ as the Son of God and urged believers to be guided by the light of faith. In his address, Bishop Rubaramira delved into the second letter of Timothy, urging a renewal of faith.During his powerful sermon, filled with passion and conviction, the inspirational speaker took a moment to remind the congregation of the immeasurable value and significance of the precious gift of faith.

With utmost sincerity and urgency, he emphasized the importance of never letting this remarkable blessing become mere complacency or indifference. Using powerful words that resonated deeply within the hearts of the listeners, he issued a heartfelt challenge to the priests, who were under the guidance of Fr. Austine, urging them to embrace their divine calling with unwavering dedication and commitment.

The Bishop implored them to nourish, cultivate, and propagate this extraordinary gift, just as the Wisemen graciously shared their precious offerings with the world. Drawing wisdom and insight from the esteemed St., the speaker expertly wove in additional spiritual insights and teachings to support his message, allowing the congregation to deepen their understanding and connection to their faith.

Paul’s teachings, Bishop Rubaramira emphasized the unity of believers as one family under God. Love, he urged, should be the cornerstone of their lives, reflecting God’s love manifested through the gift of His Son.In a fervent and impassioned call to action, Bishop Rubaramira eloquently implored all those in attendance, urging them to wholeheartedly embrace the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit.
