A Rwandese national was last night killed at the hand of Kabale mob after he was found breaking into a resident’s shop in attempted burglary.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson identified the deceased as Elias Twizeye, Rwandese and a resident of Kirisa village Nyombe parish Kahungye sub county Kabale district.
Eye witnesses said the victim is a casual labourer in the area working at the home of the late Ndagijimana of Kinisa village Nyombe parish c Kahungye sub county in Kabale district.
The body was then taken to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Maate says the deceased was lynched last night (25/03/2024) at around 2am after he and another accomplice were found breaking into a local shop belonging to Micheal Tugyendenawe in Nyombe trading centre.
They were caught by the Nyombe village LC1 chairman Sunday Kabemera who made an alarm that attracted the residents.
“He made an alarm that attracted local residents who tried to arrest and the thieves resisted leading to an escape of one, where as one was lynched on the sport,” Police reported.
Police officers from Kabale led by the DCID Officer visited the scene unfortunately, they found when the victim was already lynched.
The body was then taken to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem and the search for another suspect who survived lynching is on.
“Inquiries on going and efforts to get those involved are being made so that are arraigned before courts of law,” ASP Maate added.
