The Director of Public Prosecution Jane Frances Abodo has dropped all charges against Rwenzururu king, His Majesty Charles Wesley Mumbere, as well as 217 of his subjects, owing to the fact that the accused applied for amnesty which has been granted.
Mumbere who has spent 7 years in house arrest has been facing charges of murder, treason and aggravated robbery. He was arrested in 2016 following clashes in Kasese at his palace that left over 100 people dead.
Charges have however been maintained against Johnson Thembo Kitsumbire, the former Rwenzururu prime minister, and one other having not have applied for amnesty.
The Rwenzururu King was battling charges involving murder, treason, and aggravated robbery and his movements had been restricted to Kampala and Wakiso.
However, with the charges having been dropped, the Omusinga can now go back to his Kingdom after seven years.
