IBANDA
In a major security operation, a joint task force in Ibanda District successfully recovered an AK47 rifle with two live rounds of ammunition, marking a significant breakthrough in an ongoing investigation. The discovery was made in Igorora village, where the firearm was concealed in a swamp.
The weapon is linked to Kiiza Ashraf, a notorious suspected robber who had been evading authorities across multiple districts, including Mbarara, Kazo, Kiruhura, and Kamwenge. Ashraf was apprehended on October 10, 2024, during a coordinated intelligence operation involving the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), and the Internal Security Organisation (ISO).
Upon his arrest, Kiiza revealed that the AK47 had been given to him by an accomplice, Godfrey, a suspect based in Kamwenge. According to Kiiza, Godfrey had allegedly stolen the rifle from an unknown individual.
Authorities expressed commitment to planning to crack down on crime in the region. Security forces continue to investigate further leads to apprehend Godfrey and others involved in the case.
