Detectives at police Criminal Investigative Directorate (CID) headquarters have recovered Ugx 600Million from some suspects of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation destined for accomplice in crime.
The recoveries follow instructions by the minister of presidency, Milly Babalanda to investigate alleged corruption at UPPC.
On August 18, minister Babalanda fired the UPPC board members on allegations of embezzlement of the corporation funds, abuse of office and causing financial loss to government.
“I have today officially interdicted the managing director, the company secretary, and the internal auditor to pave way for investigations into allegations of corruption and other irregularities. In the meantime, Mr James Tweheyo has been appointed as caretaker managing director,” minister Babalanda tweeted after the sacking.
She then ordered for investigations into the allegations.
“I have directed the Uganda Police Criminal Investigations Department to investigate the alleged corruption at UPPC.” Minister Babalanda said.
Following directives by the minister, the CID summoned the sacked board members for interrogations. These are; the board managing director Vincent Kityamuweesi Musubire, the board chairperson Prof Tom Davis Wasswa, board members; Thomas Matende, Edgar Agaba, Florence Otto, John Lorot, Godfrey Bakibinga, and Aisha Sanyu Kakaire.
In a heightened investigation, CID detectives have recovered UShs 600million from some suspects meant to aid in crimes.
According to the CID spokesman, Charles Twiine, the recovered money was part of the 3Billion loot that had passed through an account of a fictitious Commission agent.
He however did not divulge into details of the suspects for purposes of not interferring with the investigations and distortion of evidences.
