Six candidates have been successfully nominated to contest for the upcoming Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election.
The Electoral Commission (EC) confirmed the completion of nomination exercise on Thursday evening.
“Nominations are complete! On Day 2, 6 candidates were nominated, bringing the total to 15; 6 for District Woman MP and 9 for Local Gov’t Council positions,” EC confirmed.
Kisoro district woman MP seat fell vacant after the passing of the former Minister of State for Defense and Veteran Affairs, Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, on September 7.
The nomination process began yesterday, with Rose Kabagyenyi of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Juliet Musanase of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) being the first to register their candidacies. Today (October 31), four additional candidates were nominated: They are Akifeza Grace Ngabirano (Independent), Cyimpaye Aisha (PPP), Zubedi Sultana Tana (NUP), and Ingabire Mable (UPC).
In addition to the six candidates running for District Woman MP, the EC also approved 15 nominations for Local Government Council positions within Kisoro district.
According to the EC roadmap, the campaign period for the Kisoro District Woman MP by-election will officially run from November 1 to November 12, 2024, while polling date is set for November 14.
The EC has encouraged all candidates to adhere to campaign guidelines, ensuring a peaceful and fair election process in the district.
