The popular SP. Jackson Mucunguzi psc (U), a senior police officer is currently the talk of the day in the corridors of Makerere university after opening up that he will be running for the chairmanship of Makerere convocation. Mucunguzi announced this while officiating the popular Possumus league where he was the guest of honor as they played their last games.

According to Mr. Mucunguzi, he’s ready for the Mantle as an alumnus and now a PhD student at the same university. He has three post graduate degrees from Costa Rica(south America), Uganda Christan University and Uganda Management Institute; where he is a member of Alumni Association representing Kampala and Extra.He says he is experienced with University’s politics having been a GRC of Mitchelle Hall, Guild security, Minister 2008/2009 and then head of security for 7 years as an O/c as well as a chief security officer of same university. Further more Mucunguzi headed sorrounding areas as DPC Wandegeya Police incharge of community policing division.

When contacted by our reporter, Mucunguzi said that, the Ivory tower is currently struggling with a lot of challenges that he wants to solve immediately he’s elected as the chairman. Among these include; the current poor communication gaps between convocation and other stake holders especially between students and the alumni association. There are also allegations of the impact of convocation to it’s members where there is less mobilisation. Mucunguzi also added that there is poor representation of government and University management at the ivory tower.

Among his campaign agenda, Mucunguzi says if he is elected, he will immediately start by popularizing the convocation at national and international platforms, mobilization of members wherever they are to raise funds and other supporting efforts to better Makerere University and Implementing the constitution of convocation in addition of laying strategies of making Makerere University Convocation great by engaging all stakeholders.

Currently SP Mucunguzi is, the head of doctrine development unit in Uganda Police Force (UPF), under the department of curriculum development ,Directorate of Human Resource Development/Training which is headed by Gen. Godfrey Golooba psc,ndc as a director (AIGP) in UPF. Previously, he was an O/C and later Chief Security Officer, Makerere University between 2013-2017, he then in 2015 served as a Divisional Police Commander at Wandegeya Police station, there after to Jinja road in 2018 before joining HRD (Curriculum & Doctrine Devt) among others. Afande Mucunguzi is known for controlling violent strikes of makerere university. He was fundamental during lecturers and non teaching staff salary pay rise .
