Nyamitanga Cathedral curate priest, Rev. Fr Julius Muhwezi has asked pupils of St. Helen’s Primary School Mbarara to try to cultivate humility to excel in their studies.
The priest made the remarks while celebrating Mass for the first Holy Communion during which over 70 pupils received their first Eucharist. The Holy Mass was celebrated at the school premises.
Fr Muhwezi challenged pupils to remain humble as they looked today on their first communion day, to share on the Lord’s blessings and encouraged them to simply remember who God is and what it means to be his child.
He said one can do this by welcoming corrections, keeping commitments, working hard, helping others and obeying the ten commandments of God and the six commandments of mother church.
Sister Ferista Nakityo, Head Mistress thanked and honored the new participants in the Holy Eucharist and requested them always to pray for soul of their grandpa, Emeritus Archbishop of Mbarara Paul K Bakyenga.
Bakyenga passed on Tuesday morning at Nsambya hospital in Kampala and will be buried on Sunday 23rd July, 2023, according to a tentative burial program issued by the diocesan administration.
According to Sr Nakityo, the fallen Archbishop loved the school and supported its developments so they should keep praying for him to rest well.
She also commended the parents and old students of the school for their continued support and coming to grace the function. She said those who received Holy eucharist are from the age of 7 years and above and that is the reason why most of them look young.
“As our Motto suggests (Akati Kainikwa Kakiri Kabitsi) literally meaning a tree is bent when it’s still young” we try by all means to introduce our pupils to the Catholic faith at a young age” said Nakityo.
