Opposition Democratic Party (DP) has asked police to not only blame accident rampages on drivers but also on the state of impassable roads in the country.
“Traffic is only finger pointing at the drivers driving recklessly forgetting that even the roads are in bad conditions. The roads are narrow, full of potholes among others,” says DP
The remarks have been made by Ismail Kiirya, the leader of UYD, a DP youth wing speaking to journalists at City Hall in Kampala on Tuesday.
This follow report by police showing that 248 people were involved in accidents and 58 died instantly during the Christmas festivities (between 23rd and 26th December 2022)
Police reported that some vehicles in bad conditions but Kiirya accuses police of being corrupt to allow these vehicles on the road which he says leads to more accidents.
He appeals to the government to construct better roads and improve on road maintenances to make them more flexible for road users.
In related stories, UYD has urged government to work on the issue of high prices of commodities than playing blind games of using the Russian-Ukrain war on inflation.
“Government should not make excuses all the time find solutions to this problem because you promised all this when coming to power.”
