KAMPALA
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has criticized local governments heads of security and other political leaders for issuing tough directives to Ugandans on alleged security reasons.
President’s remarks follow the July 7 public notice issued by the Kyegegwa RDC Monica Karungi Kanyaihe in which she suspended night gatherings such as entertainment gatherings, night prayers among others.
Since the attack of Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese district by the ADF rebels on June 16, some district councils neighbouring Kasese district have on the directives of RDCs who are heads of security suspended a number of night activities including closure of boarding schools.
The president has however, in his Thursday night nation’s address ruled out the directives arguing that they are due to excitement of some RDCs and local government leaders.
“I have seen some people like one RDC in Kyegegwa closing night discos…it is not necessary because this [ADF) is not a big force but we are going to discuss it. Let the Bazzukulu enjoy and tell them what to do,” said Museveni
According to the president, the ADF attack of children in Kasese was not strength but great weakness of the rebels.
He said government is committed to protect Ugandans and their properties boasting that the country has a well trained national army able to defeat the enemy.
“We have created a national army that can fight any type of war with whoever, no matter who you are, big or small. The army has got a very big capacity to see and destroy ( the enemy),” he added.
Museveni also directed police to have a toll free number at every subcounty for the public to notify police in case there is a security emergency in the area.
