A suspected female bomber has been shot dead near Kalerwe Market, 5 kilometres from Kampala City centre.
“A female suicide bomber has been killed in Kalerwe Market,” defense ministry confirmed.
The ministry did not disclose details of the suspect but stated that investigations are ongoing.
“The bomb squad is on the ground carrying out investigations,” the ministry posted on their official X account.
This is a second time a suicide bomber is intercepted and killed by intelligence officers in a period of less than one month. On June 3, during the Martyrs Day Celebrations, a suspected bomb blast occured near the Catholic Shrine in Munyonyo, killing two people including a Boda Boda rider and a suspected female suicide bomber.
Security linked the incident to alleged Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) attacks.
