The long outcry by businessmen on the delay of their goods caused by endless roadblocks has been answered as police announces total ban on all roadblocks nationwide.
Last week, the prime minister of Uganda Rt Hon. Robina Nabbanja issued a directive to stop all road and high way barriers.
According to Nabbanja, the directive was due to complaints by several businessmen and investors about the delay of their goods on the roads over road barriers that were put on roads and highways.
This was once again retaliated by President Museveni in his speech on independence day speech at Kololo independence grounds on Sunday when he banned all roadblocks on the roads to ease the movements of commercial goods.
On Monday, the Uganda police announced they had stopped and removed all road blocks on roads and different highways.
“We want to inform the public and all the road users that we have fully implemented the directive that was issued by the office of prime minister and now there is zero barriers on roads and this was done immediately with the guidance of the chief executive,” Police announced.
Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson appeals to members of the general public to keep vigilant and inform the police of violations to this ban by Incase they see any officers and also assured safety of the road users
“We have safety and counter measures that have been put in place on all roads and highways will be polished with traffic patrol under integrated highway units and they will handle traffic violations,” Enanga added.
However, with the recent reports on counterfeits imported into the country through porous borders or smuggling which had been largely intercepted at different roadblock points, no one knows if the new directive has been brought in a good faith to sustain the country’s economy or it’s an inventory for profiting a few sections of the population.
