The Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) has cleared the air about the future of the communication sector in the country following the exit of several telecom companies.
The commission was responding to public concerns about Africell Telcom Limited which recently announced it will be exiting the Ugandan market on October 7.
“Allaying fears about the health of Uganda’s communications sector in view of this development, the Commission assured all stakeholders that Uganda’s communications sector remains resilient and attractive to local and foreign investors.” UCC has said.
The commission has assured the general public that it is working on measures to institute a fertile ground for the future of the communication sector in Uganda.
“Sufficient measures have been instituted to ensure that Africell’s exit does not negatively affect the stability and integrity of the communications sector in Uganda,” the Commission said in its statement.
UCC says risks to the sector’s resilience and integrity would manifest in debts that impact the financial health of other stakeholders in the telecom ecosystem or compromise the continuity of services.Follow Us
