Thieves on Saturday night (October 7) broke into Kamaggwa sub-parish church, under Matale catholic parish and stole a number of items.
Thieve stole unknown amount of offertory money, speakers and music instruments such as piano among others.
Paul Sempa, the youth chairperson said that the thieves broke the padlock and door bolts and entered the church on Saturday night.
“When they entered the church, they came to a safe where we keep gift offertory for the Holy Virgin Mary, vandalized and stole money inside and other valuables,” he said.
He said the amount of the money stolen is still unknown because the safe is always opened at the end of the year.
It is reported that after breaking into the church, the thieves went to the neighborhood and broke into a resident’s home, a treasurer of one of the CBS Powesa saving groups in Kamagwa and stole money estimated to over Shs20m.
The stolen safe was found in abandoned in a nearby forest.
Residents condemned the act of stealing from the house of the Lord alleging that the gang might be among the christians inside church.
