Police in Katakwi district is holding in custody three suspects on allegations of murder of a businessman and his wife in the area.
The suspects are; , Ijoot John Robert, Olem Simon and Asege Agnes, all residents of Aleles village, Aisim parish, Angodingodi sub-county in Katakwi district.
Police preliminary reports indicate that on the night of 20 September, 2021, the trio raided the home of Omachar Emmanuel, a businessman in the same village, killed him together with his wife and inflicted serious injuries to their two daughters.
The East Kyoga police spokesperson ASP Ageca Oscar Gregory has confirmed to the arrests stressing that the trio form part of a group which has been terrorizing the area.
According to Ageca, the Regional team from East Kyoga and Katakwi CPS which included homicide detectives visited the scene of crime, conveyed bodies of the deceased for postmortem analysis whereas the two juvenile victims were rushed to Katakwi General hospital for further medical attention.
Police recovered exhibits of material value at the scene and the suspects have been transfered to Katakwi CPS for further interrogation.
In related stories, ASP Ageca has appealed to residents in the East Kyoga region to desist from any circulating rumors that the duo were killed by manchette-wielding gangs.
“We further ask the public to disregard alarmist reports that Bijambiya (panga wielding gangs) had killed the two people. The incident is a straight forward case of murder,” ASP Ageca Oscar Gregory said.
