MUBENDE
On June 6th, 2023, Three suspects armed robbers from Mubende have been charged with two counts of armed robbery and murder by the Makindye Court Martial.
The suspects had previously been involved in two similar robberies which circulated on social media platforms that prompted security organs to hunt for the criminals.
The three suspects were identified as Dan Olupot alias Jose, 38 years old and a resident of Kanyogoga Namuwongo in Makindye, Farouk Ssegawa, 20 years old and a worker at a gold mining camp in Kassanda, and Vincent Okitoi alias Sam, 37 years old.
On the night of their arrest, they were carrying out a planned robbery of goats in the area. They were apprehended with the help of a group of goat farmers who had noticed their suspicious behavior.
The suspects had Initially resisted arrest and had to be restrained with force by the police. During the altercation, one of the suspects, Cpl. Joseph Olaya, was fatally wounded and later died in hospital.
The suspects were found to be in possession of stolen items including 120 million Ugandan shillings, 5 mobile phones, a laptop, and other items worth 14.9 million shillings that were stolen from Kitanga,Manyogaseka in district.
Cpl. Joseph Olaya, who had been working with Kiganda Police Station in Kassanda, had tried to apprehend the suspects himself but had been overpowered. He was later transferred to Mubende hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspects were suspected of having robbed Olaya of his gun, an SMG, and ammunition. The investigation is ongoing and they will be tried in the general Court Martial in Makindye on two counts of robbery and murder.
