The Nigerian government has convened an emergency meeting to address the growing discontent among citizens, as a planned nationwide protest tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria is set to take place on August 1.

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has faced increasing pressure from various groups and individuals demanding improved governance and accountability. In response, the government has urged protest organizers to delay their plans and allow the administration more time to implement people-oriented programs.
The emergency meeting, scheduled for Wednesday morning, will bring together all ministers, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and Special Advisers to the President. The meeting aims to address the grievances of the protesters and find solutions to the country’s pressing issues.

President Tinubu has personally appealed to Nigerian youths to call off their planned protest, assuring them that his administration is committed to addressing their concerns. The government has cited recent achievements, such as the swift passage of the National Minimum Wage Bill and the distribution of grains to state governments, as evidence of its dedication to the welfare of Nigerians.
However, protesters remain skeptical, demanding concrete actions and reforms to address the country’s endemic corruption, economic stagnation, and social inequality.
