Police in Malaba on Monday arrested two suspects on allegations of being in possession of a stolen vehicle belonging to a Chinese construction.
According to the Bukedi South region police spokesperson Moses J Mugwe, the duo and others still at large were on Monday intercepted in Malaba after police received a notification that the vehicle belongs to CATIC, the Chinese construction company that is currently construng a UPDF hospital in the area.
“Police in Malaba has today intercepted and impounded a suspected m/v reg no. UBD 770A Harrier. Earlier, we received a communication that the said vehicle, driven by Obua Loolo Stephen and belongs CATIC, the Chinese Co. constructing the UPDF National referral hospital.” Mugwe said in a tweet on Monday.
While speaking to Parrots UG, Mugwe said that the occupants of the said car were four confirming that two of the suspects took on the heels but police managed to arrest other two who include the driver.
“They were suspected to be four(4) two fled from the scene upon interception by our highway patrollers at malaba, leaving two (2) who were arrested among them a driver, who was earlier on reported to be driving the same vehicle,” he explained.
It is alleged that the vehicle was driven towards the Malaba border.
Police towed the recovered vehicle to malaba police station, Tororo District and the two suspects were detained at malaba police station to help police in investigations.
The suspects however according to the region police mouthpiece were later transferred to Kampala CPS where the case was reported before.
“It wasn’t a Malaba case ,we only recovered the vehicle & held suspects in custody who were later transferred to CPS Kampala where the matter was reported to,” he said.
