KABALE
In a tragic incident, landslides in Kabale district have claimed the lives of two people. The landslide occurred on October 29, 2024, at approximately 3 AM in Rwamacumu, Kasheregyenyi Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county.
The victims have been identified as Tayebwa Charles 18-year-old casual worker from Rwamacumu Cell, and Bosco, a 17-year-old shamba boy of Rwandese nationality. It is reported that the landslide, consisting of soil and rocks, slid into the house of Agrey Rukundo, causing significant damage and burying the two individuals who were sleeping.
The local area chairperson, Abraham Nuwagaba, promptly informed the Officer in Charge (OC) of Kamuganguzi, who then notified the District Police Commander (DPC) and the district Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer. A team was dispatched to the scene, where they conducted a thorough investigation, processed the site, and documented the incident. Efforts were made to extract the deceased from the debris.
Postmortem examinations were conducted, and the bodies were handed over to their relatives for burial arrangements.
ASP Elly Maate, the Public Relations Officer for Kigezi, confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
