Two teenage girls have been rescued after a successful attack by the joint security forces from the Updf and Congolese army FARDC against ADF terrorists in Eastern Congo

Maj. Bilal Katamba, spokesperson for the operation shujaa has identified the victims as Aisha Mbabazi, 17 and Shaima, 5 years. They were rescued from the general areas of Mwalika valley, North Kivu province, Eastern DRC during the Updf 15th battalion operation of ADF position on August 4th at night.

One of the victims, Shaima was found in poor health conditions, but Maj. Katamba said the juvenile has been taken care of by the Updf for medication.

“Shaima is currently undergoing medical attention by the UPDF medical personnel because she was in a dire medical state manifesting with severe symptoms of malnutrition and dehydration. The medical team is doing their best to save her life,” he said

Security also recovered a machine gun (SMG) with one magazine during the attack.

Katamba condemned abduction and induction of children into terror organizations through radicalization.

“The joint forces are combing the general areas of Mwalika from where the two girls were rescued to ascertain that no other child is still trapped in the wild,” the UPDF Mountain Division spokesperson said.
