The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has on Saturday 27th April, 2024 flagged off the first batch of enumeration materials to be used in the National Housing and Population Census 2024.

They include electronic devices (Tablets), T-shirts, Bags, Enumeration Aprons among others. The dispatch guarantees a seamless execution of the census exercise due on May 10.
Speaking at the flag off event, the minister of State for finance in charge of planning, Amos Lugoloobi said the devices are waterproof and will be used in other processes such as National Identification Registration Authority and Parish Development Model.
“The procurement of materials has been instituted. The materials include the tabs that we are going to use during the census. We have ordinary and more sophisticated devices that are waterproof and can withstand any conditions […] They are also going to help us with other processes of government including elections, NIRA and PDM,” he said.
The minister added that they have achieved at least 80 percent of the NHPC 2024 preparatory processes.
“This is therefore, to confirm to the country that we are on track for the census due on 10th May, 2024. At least 80 percent is done,” said Lugoloobi.

Chris Mukiza, UBOS Executive Director said the procured devices are trackable to prevent them from theft. He said each tab has a sim card for data collection and transmission and can be connected to Bluetooth for data transmission between the enumerator and enumeration supervisor.
“These tablets are government property and have a lot of value including post census utilization.” Mukiza explained.
Accordingly, six districts will receive the first batch of enumeration materials. They are Gulu, Gulu City, Amolatar, Apac, Albetong and Otuke district.
