The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has warned the public against fraudsters circulating a fake advert for population census jobs to steal from unsuspecting social media users.
There has been an advert circulating on social media titled, “UGANDA BUREAU OF STATISTICS 2023 AD HOC STAFF RECRUITMENT”
“The Uganda Bureau of Statistics is still recruiting ad hoc staffs for the coming general census. Interested Applicants should click the link below to apply now,” the advert read in parts.
“Apply Here
https://bit.ly/UBOS-Recruitment-2023,” it adds.
The Bureau Chief Executive Officer Chris Mukiza however, said in a statement on Monday that the advert is fake and intends to dupe innocent unemployed youths looking for jobs.
“The Bureau wishes to inform the general public that the circulating advert is FAKE and is intended to dupe unsuspecting innocent youth looking for employment,” read a statement by Mukiza.
He appealed to individuals who have fallen victims or may fall victims in the future through these manipulations to not only inform the police but also provide enough evidence to aid in prosecution and conviction of the perpetrators.
“Whenever there is a need to recruit temporary or permanent staff, the bureau advertises both in the mainstream media and on its website www.ubos.org and a link of submission is made available,” Mukiza warned.
He warned criminals involved in circulating unofficial communication associated with the bureau of these unlawful practices and threatened to take legal actions once prosecuted.
Mukiza further noted that the bureau will communicate to the public thought the rightful and known channels on the recruitment exercise at the appreciate time.
It should be recalled that the National Housing Population Census, 2023 (NHPC, 2023) was supposed to kickstart next month but was postponed after the bureau reported delayed procurement related issues. UBOS now says that a new date will be fixed by the cabinet.
