The security situation along the Uganda-Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border remains peaceful, with tourism activities in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Ishasha sector continuing unhindered.
According to Major Kiconco Tabaro, Public Information Officer for the 2nd Infantry Division of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), tourists are enjoying activities such as gorilla tracking, lion climbing, and wildlife viewing without any disruptions.
“Despite the insecurity in Eastern DRC, the Ugandan side of the border remains peaceful, and we are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all tourists and refugees,” Major Tabaro stated.
The UPDF has assured that the security of tourists is guaranteed, with heightened vigilance from border communities and all stakeholders at all levels.
Additionally, the 98 Congolese policemen and their families, totaling 114, who entered Uganda recently, are safe and not under detention. Their situation is being handled at a diplomatic level between the governments of Uganda and DRC.
The UPDF continues to monitor the situation closely, working closely with border communities and stakeholders to ensure the continued peace and security in the region.
