The UCU Lady Canons were on a roll, defeating the KIU Rangers 56-40 in their National Basketball League over the weekend at YMCA Wandegeya.
The victory marks their second win of the season, having managed a 75-68 victory over the Miracle ravens during the season opener.
The Lady Canons took an early lead of 18-8 in the first quarter, and their impressive performance was characterized by selfless basketball, with the team hitting 4 three-point shots in the first quarter alone.
The Lady Canons were in the driver’s seat by halftime, leading 32-21, but the game was still up for grabs.
The third quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find their rhythm, resulting in a low-scoring period.
The Lady Canons managed to score just 4 points in the final 5 minutes of the quarter, while the KIU Rangers didn’t score at all in the first 5 minutes.
Despite the slow pace, the Lady Canons maintained their lead, setting themselves up for a strong finish.
UCU’s Millicent Otieno scored a game high 15 points, her teammate Shillah Lamunu added 11 points and 4 rebounds while captain Hajara Najjuko contributed 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Aguti scored 12 points,3 rebounds while Nanyonga Florence added 6 points.
The Rangers face the UPDF Lady Tomahawks next in the midweek at Lugogo Indoor Arena as the Lady Canons take on defending champions JKL Lady Dolphins.
