The Government of Uganda has disowned any relations with the African Union envoy to Amisom, Simon Mulongo who was declared a persona non grata in Somalia.
On November 4, the federal republic of Somalia issued a statement declaring Mulongo a persona non grata for engaging in activities incompatible with AMISOM’s mandate and Somalia’s strategy.
According to a statement, Mulongo was ordered to leave the country with Seven (7) days. Mulongo is the Deputy Special Representative of the Afican Union Commission.
Upon receiveing the declaration reports, the Ugandan government disowned Mulongo noting that he has never been appointed to this position in Somalia.
Mulongo was appointed to the office on August 19, 2017, taking over from Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, whose contract had ended at the time.
