The United Kingdom is still puzzled on declaring a new lockdown as corona virus infections continue to upsurge across the country with hospital admissions doubling every eight days.
Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary said the country is in fear of a second wave of COVID-19 but refused to say whether another national lockdown would be imposed next month.
Addressing the media on Friday September18, Boris failed to comment on this.
“I can’t give you that answer now.”
“Locckdown is a last resort, but that the government would do whatever it takes to tackle the virus.” Johnson Boris added.
UK is the fifth country with the largest number of deaths from COVID-19 in the world, after the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.
By September 18, the country had recorded over 38,4000 COVID-19 cases and 41794 deaths.
“The number of people in hospital is doubling every eight days or so … we will do what it takes to keep people safe,” Hancock said. “We keep these things under review.”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson had earlier told reports that he does not want a second lockdown pledging for the government’s efforts to prevent it.
The UK recently introduced a rule of six, restricting social gatherings to six people. But critics have said this measure was inadequate, given more relaxed attitudes to social distancing in restaurants and pubs amid a government push to get encourage people to return to the office.
