Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has issued a final call for students wishing to register for this year’s examinations across different levels.
Jennifer Kalule, UNEB spokesperson, emphasized that parents, schools, and candidates have until June 21st, 2024 to complete this registration.
This year, UNEB is overseeing four examinations, including the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Advance Certificate of Education (UACE) and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), which includes candidates sitting under both the new lower secondary curriculum and a one-off transitional examination.
According to Kalule, at least 1,309,852 candidates had registered for all the four examinations by June 19. They include candidates who have registered the transitional examination.
“51% of the registered candidates are females, while 49% are males. For the Transitional Candidates, 56% of those registered are females, while 44% are males.” UNEB reported.
She urged interested candidates that qualify to register for the transitional examination to make do so by close of business tomorrow, June 21. This is the last time UNEB is assessing learners based on the old curriculum.
“People intending to run for political offices, but do not have a UCE certificate are specifically encouraged to register now. Adults of 20 years above, who did not sit for PLE, can register as well. They only need to seek the permission of the UNEB Executive Director from our offices in Ntinda, show proof age, and MUST be Ugandans,” Kalule explained.
She added that others who qualify to register for the transitional examination include; learners who sat UCE in 2023 or earlier and would like to improve their grades; those who registered for UCE in 2023 or earlier, but did not sit; those who failed to register for UCE in 2023.These must have sat PLE in 2018 or earlier; as well as learners whose results were cancelled due to examination malpractice.
