10 suspects of examination malpractice in the recently concluded Primary Leaving Examination PLE have today November 11 met with the UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo to seek for redress.

They include a Headteacher/ Director of of a sitting center in Kanyanya, an invigilator and a scout among others.
They were arrested for alleged cutting of a security envelop containing PLE papers on the 1st day of the examination. They are also said to have photographed and shared.
The others were found with the content on their phones and are suspected to have shared the same electronically.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting, Annet Kemaali, the board legal officer did not divulge into details of the suspects for contempt of court. She however confirmed that they are under police custody and are expected to appear before court to a answer to different charges.
“We cannot divulge the names of the schools at the moment, headteachers and other persons involved because this matter is going to be taken to court,” she said.
According to Kemaali, the suspects committed two offenses of damaging an examination material and abetting malpractice which calls for a fine of Shs20m or conviction for a period not less than 5yrs or both.
UNEB ED, Dan Odongo said the UNEB will wait for the verdict of the court. And warned officials against involvement in examination malpractice because this may cause far reaching consequences to the education of the children and on individual suspects.
Cases of examination malpractice have been reported in PLE and the ongoing UCE exams and over 20 suspects are currently detained in different detention facilities across the country some of whom including officials deployed by UNEB to monitor, supervise and ensure safety of the examination exercise.
