The Uganda People’s Congress has called for a comprehensive public transport strategy to minimize on the Boda Boda and Taxi operational challenges.
Sharon Oyat Arach, the UPC spokesperson says that boda boda industry is key to the country’s economy because it employs a good number of young workers across the country with beneficiaries like banks, importers ,fuel filling station among others
“Serious review of boda industry and a comprehessive plan should be done to harmonize the needs of the economy countrywide.” Arach said.
She went on and argued traffic officers enforcing the operations on errant boda boda riders in urban centres to extend it to other parts of the country stating that its a national matter.
“Boda Boda riders should have nearby office facilities in every district where they can be guided on how to ride on the public road and be certified.” She added
However, she also called on the government to revamp railway transport and make it extended across the country and also encouraging big buses, air transport to pry long routes so that it helps in solving congestion.
