From evil wrestlers to serial security personnel killers to the paranormal, the creepy images plumb the depths of human history’s dark side in the Karamoja region, North East of Uganda.
The terrfying photos shows too weak to sit up women and children, bearing telltale skin lesions, strapped to the back, stares gauntly from sunken eyes caused by extreme hunger. No one knows who is next to succumb to starvation nether is the livestock spared.
Citizens and humanitarians have called on government to address this challenge immediately. The government of Uganda has since earmarked Shs135 billions to give food relief to the famine-affected households in Karamoja.
UPC’s Muzeyi Faizo however, advises the government to act upon a sustainable plan to end hunger in all famine-stricken areas of Uganda.
”We have been reliably informed that government has earmarked Shs135b for food relief to Teso region. However, this is not sustainable!” Muzeyi stated.
“We should not prepare an environment or cause an impression that will just be going for food relief, instead, we should concentrate on making our people able to feed themselves,” he said
The UPC Head of Media and Communications, tasked the government to take charge not only to give relief but also give sustainable strategies as the situation of famine is gauged to become more serious and spread to other parts of the country like Teso, Acholi, Lango and West-Nile sub regions.
In addition to developing a sustainable plan for famine affected areas, UPC suggests that government to address the issue of climate change which is majorly a result of famine in Karamoja.
“If the issue of climate change is not handled adequately, the situation may get out hand and Uganda would not wish to be moved in that direction!” UPC warned.
“UPC urges Government to effectively address the issue of climate change with the utmost attention by leading by example to encourage people plant more trees as well as conserving the environment, water bodies, soils, swamps and forests which are key for sustainable agricultural productivity.” Muzeyi Faizo urged.
Furthermore, the party asked government to invest more agricultural inputs, revolutionize farming using appropriate science and technology in order to ensure food security in the country.
