Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has joined other opposition political parties in launching nationwide fundraising drives to finance campaigns ahead of the 2026 general elections.

In recent weeks, parties such as the National Unity Platform (NUP), Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and the Common Man’s Party have unveiled fundraising initiatives amid reports of financial strains affecting their candidates. NUP, led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, announced it had raised UGX 600 million within a week after launching a UGX 1 billion campaign fund.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, UPC head of media and communications, Muzeeyi Faizo, said party president Jimmy Akena will officially launch their drive, dubbed “UPC Special – Live Fundraising Event”, on the party’s digital platforms this evening.

The drive, themed “It’s Never Too Late to Do the Right Thing,” will run live on Facebook, X, TikTok and YouTube.

Faizo said the funds collected will support UPC flag bearers already on the campaign trail but struggling to meet essential costs such as hiring public address systems, fueling vehicles and other logistical needs.

“It is never too late to do the right thing, and the right thing now is to support our candidates in any way we can,” Faizo said.

The party shared official mobile money channels under the Jimmy Akena Foundation through which supporters can contribute. Donations can be sent via MTN Momo Code 723036 or Airtel Money Code 4397653.

UPC reiterated its earlier announcement that Akena will traverse the country to rally support for party candidates. He is expected to begin these activities in Kaberamaido District, Teso Sub-region, on Sunday, November 30, 2025, as the party steps up mobilisation ahead of the polls.

More than 100 UPC candidates were nominated for parliamentary races across the country for the 2026 elections. The party also fronted candidates for local government council positions in various parts of the country who will also benefit from this drive.
