Ugandan security team have recovered 503 live rounds of ammunition at Uganda-Kenya border, UPDF reported.
The live rounds were recovered at Kokochaya checkpoint, off Karita-Lokales road along the Uganda-Kenya borderline.
According to the defense spokesperson Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, security has been trailing two suspects namely Kevo and another unidentified person on allegations of illegal possession of ammunitions.
“Since 19 May 2023, male adult suspects, one identified as Kevo and another yet to be identified both residents of Kachaliba in West Pokot County were being trailed by our intelligence networks,” read a statement on updf website in parts.
Intelligence reports indicate that the duo rode a numberless motorcycle through a small path (panya route) from the Riwo-Girik side in Amudat district and after learning about a security trail at the Kokochaya checkpoint, they dropped an exhibit bag containing live rounds of ammunition and escaped toward West Pokot County.
Brig. Gen. Kulayigye says that security team from Uganda is engaging their counterparts in Nairobi (West Pokot County) to apprehend the suspects.
“We shall never relent in our efforts in conducting security border operations to avert armed criminality and gun violence,” Kulayigye said.
Arms and ammunition illegal dealings are unlawful acts of small arms proliferation and rearmament by wrong elements.
