The government has withdrawn the condition that passengers must prove that they are fully vaccinated before using public transport.
This has been announced by the minister of works and transport Gen. Katumba Wamala following difficulties in enforcing the same.
On December 31, President Yoweri Museveni, declared possession of COVID-19 vaccination card as a condition for reopening the economy and allowing public service vehicles to load full capacity.
This prompted some sections of the public that are not vaccinated to buy fake cards printed at Nasser Road and other parts of the country.
Passengers were required to carry vaccination cards, a measure which however has been found to be difficult to enforce.
According to Gen. Katumba, many public transporters could not differentiate between genuine and fake cards, yet some already vaccinated travellers never received their cards from the Ministry of Health.
He says that it was necessary for government to revise the directive restricting the proof of vaccination to operators of public transport vehicles, such as, drivers, conductors and their staff
