Wakiso Junior School was abuzz with excitement on Sunday as the school community gathered to celebrate the exceptional performance of its P.7 Class of 2024 in the recently released Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the celebration ceremony, Mrs. Namayanja Jane Mawanda, the Senior Inspector of Schools for Wakiso District urged parents to avoid enrolling their children in schools involved in examination malpractice, emphasizing that the practice undermines the integrity of education, promotes dishonesty, and denies learners essential knowledge and skills for their future.
She commended Wakiso District for maintaining its top position in PLE performance and noted that no cases of examination malpractice were recorded in the district during the 2024 PLE.
Mrs. Namayanja also raised concerns over the persistent challenges in science education, attributing poor performance to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 59 candidates sat for last year’s PLE exams at Wakiso Junior School. Out of these, 32 scored in Division One, and 27 earning Division 2.
The best pupil, Innocent Muhwezi scored aggregate of 5 Aggregates and was rewarded a new mattress by the school Director, Mr. Kamuhangire Augustine. Other pupils were also rewarded with scholastic materials and other prizes in recognition for their hard work.
The School Director, Kamuhangire attributed this success to strong collaboration between parents, teachers, and learners. He pledged to continue fostering this partnership to maintain high academic standards.
During the celebration, the school also honored one of their Old Students, Ambrose Ssenkungu, a pioneer student, for his outstanding contribution in shaping the community such as in the education sector holding key roles including as a national book evaluator and master trainer for the new lower secondary curriculum.
Ssenkungu commended the school for producing influential professionals, including doctors, lawyers, and politicians, and commended its ability to adapt to modern educational demands.
Notable dignitaries at the function were Wakiso District Local Government leaders, religious leaders, parents, alumni, staff and pupils.
