Easter season is meant to carry meaning especially to those that celebrate it; whether Christian or not. Our hearts as celebrants must be open to the understanding of the one act in human history that changed the trajectory of humankind; the death and resurrection of Christ, our saviour and redeemer.
Someone might wonder why we celebrate death instead of being sad and mindlessly crying our eyes out. Here is why.
During Jesus Christ’s last days on Earth, He promised the coming of the Holy Spirit on the earth. In John 14;16 of the Amplified Bible, he describes the attributes of the forth coming spirit as a comforter, counsellor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener and standby.
By this, what he earlier said in the verse above (verse 12) is fulfilled. As it is written, He said that whoever believes in him shall do even greater works than what he had done. This meant that all the things we read and were done by Christ; healing the sick, giving life to the dead and sight to the blind among others —whoever believes in Him will be able to even greater.
One might ask themselves what it means to believe in Jesus Christ. Well, according to john 3;16, the Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son; Jesus Christ, to die and whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
Believing in Christ means that we have everlasting life through the holy spirit. This is the essence of celebrating Easter.
We celebrate God for sacrificing His only son, we celebrate Christ for dying on the cross so that the Holy Spirit would come and lastly, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit through the resurrection and ascension of Christ.
