Authorities at western Uganda’s only regional referral Mbarara hospital have dismissed reports that the hospital has run out of coronavirus funds.
Dr Celestine Barigye, the hospital Director has told Parrotsug that the hospital has not incurred any financial crisis disregarding media reports as malicious rumours.
Barigye’s remarks follow reports making rounds on social and mainstream media alleging hospital management to have used up the funds allocated to facilitate COVID-19 patients and health workers.
He stated that the hospital had received shillings 270m from the government and have so far spent shillings 170m remaining with a balance worth 100m shillings.
On the COVID-19 situation, Dr Barigye said Mbarara hospital has of today August2, recorded 36 cumulative COVID-19 cases, 29 recoveries among them are 15 Kenyan truck drivers who have already been sent back home and now remaining with only 7 cases.
