A woman in Dokolo district is in police custody accused of dumping her sister in law’s baby in a pit latrine. The suspect is Sandra Awino, a resident of Awiri in Dokolo district. She was according to report taking care of the child together with her husband.
This was after the child’s grandmother, Milly Ajwang reported that they found him abandoned in a pit latrine after a long search.
Police led by the Awiri Officer In charge, Margate Abura swung into action and arrested Awino on Wednesday.
According to police, they retrieved the child from a 60 feet pit latrine and rushed her to Awiri health center for treatment.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect told Police that she is usually attacked by “evil spirits” that hypnotize her to become aggressive,” Police reported.
Further reports indicate that the suspect also attempted to strangle another child a few days ago. Police says the suspect will be subjected to a mental health test so that health experts can assess if she has a chronic psychiatric illness.
