Police in Kampala have detained a 57-year-old woman over an alleged assault that occurred in Kavule Zone, Katwe–Makindye Division.
The suspect, Nakanwagi Gladys Rebecca, is accused of assaulting Namutebi Mariam, 65, on January 9, 2026, at around 7:00am.
Eyewitnesses allege that the suspect grabbed Namutebi by the T-shirt, assaulted and tore her clothing during. The misunderstanding was reportedly caused by a political argument.
Nakanwagi is currently being held at Karee Police Station as investigations continue.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawal said the case file will be submitted to the Office of the Resident State Attorney for legal review and guidance upon completion of investigations.
“The case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Resident State Attorney for legal review and advice,” Kawal said.
Police strongly condemned all forms of violence and lawlessness, particularly during the election period, and urged the public to resolve disputes through lawful means.
