A new police crime report indicate that at least 56 persons have been killed in Lango region in the last four months between January and April this year.
North Kyoga Regional police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema while releasing the crime report for the month of January to April 2022 yesterday said that Oyam district registered the highest cases of
murders in Lango.
Okema blamed LC1 chairpersons for exacerbating some of the murders
through unfair and bias ruling on cases brought to them for redress which forces people to resort to killing their opponents.
Prominent among the murder cases registered in North Kyoga include 16
cases of mob justice, domestic violence 6, cases, poisoning, 3 cases,
shooting, 1 case, among others.
Okema asked leaders to sensitize locals on the dangers of the vice and religious leaders to offer moral guidance to their flock to raise a crime-free society.
He further tasked police to always reach crime scenes in time to save suspects from mob justice.
Meanwhile, at least 379 street kids have been arrested and prosecuted in Lango in the last one year.
North Kyoga Region police PRO Jimmy Patrick Okema said that much as
some of these street kids have been released on bail and others
pardoned, they have continued to engage in criminal activities.
Okema added that since Lira still lacks a remand home for juveniles, the street kids who are implicated in crimes will be taken to Gulu remand home while those above 18 years will be jailed in government
prisons.
